At CIENEL we help you understand what Medigap covers, when to enroll, and which standardized plan fits your situation in Florida.
Medicare Supplements, also called Medigap, are private insurance policies that work alongside Original Medicare — they do not replace it. Their purpose is to cover the out-of-pocket costs that Parts A and B do not pay: deductibles, copays, and coinsurance. While Medicare Advantage replaces Original Medicare with an integrated private plan, Medigap acts as a second layer of protection on top of your Original Medicare.
Medigap plans are standardized at the federal level and identified by letters (Plans A, B, C, D, F, G, K, L, M, N). Each letter defines exactly what benefits are covered, regardless of which insurance company sells the plan. This standardization lets you compare prices between companies knowing the coverage is identical for each letter. It is important to note that Medigap does not include prescription drug coverage — for that you need a separate Medicare Part D plan.
Specific benefits vary by plan letter. These are the types of costs Medigap can help with.
The most important time to get a Medigap plan is during your Medigap Open Enrollment Period: the 6 months that begin on the first day of the month you turn 65 and are enrolled in Medicare Part B. During this period you have guaranteed issue rights — no insurance company can deny you coverage or charge you more because of pre-existing health conditions. It is the only time with full guaranteed access.
Outside this window, insurers can apply medical underwriting, which may result in higher premiums or even a coverage denial. There are special situations called Guaranteed Issue Rights that protect your access to Medigap in certain cases — such as losing employer coverage or leaving a Medicare Advantage plan. Contact us to evaluate your specific situation.
We compare premiums across insurers for the same plan letter in your area, explain what each letter covers in English or Spanish without technical jargon, and review your enrollment situation to make sure you do not miss your guaranteed access window. Our service is completely free for you. Contact us by WhatsApp, phone, or email and we will respond within 24 hours.
